About Georges Marciano
Georges’ story is no different than that of many who came to the United States in search of the American Dream.
Growing up in Marseille, France, with his parents, three brothers and
a sister, he left school at the young age of thirteen, earning money to help his family. After working at a number of odd jobs, he began designing silk neckties and selling them door to door. He understood his neighbors and the trends they liked and as his tie business grew,
he began to design jeans and sold them in the outdoor markets.
After a few years, he expanded from one small store to three. In 1977, Georges went on vacation to California and fell in love with what he saw. The people, the weather, the beaches and the lifestyle immediately convinced him that California was to be his new home. So Georges moved to Los Angeles where he began designing and manufacturing his line of jeans.
Soon, Bloomingdale’s bought two-dozen pairs of his unconventional three-zipper jeans called “Marilyn.” They sold out in a few hours and Georges was on his way to the American Dream. Georges and his brothers (Paul, Maurice and Armand) then created GUESS?, and provided thousands of jobs to Californians. They insisted that all of the company’s manufacturing would be done, not only in the United States, but also specifically in California. Georges and his brothers expanded their vision beyond the adult lines and developed an award winning children’s collection. He has been honored for his ingenuity and creativity by receiving many honors and awards including the California Designer of the Year Award and the Otis Parson’s Fashion Achievement Award.
In 1993, Georges sold a majority of his shares of GUESS? to his three brothers and shifted his focus into real estate. Among the various properties he developed was a Beverly Hills office building called the “Power Tower” – a center for entertainment industry agents, directors and producers. Georges has consistently used the fruits of his success to provide for his community, especially in support of the first responders of Los Angeles. Former Mayor Tom Bradley declared April 12th as Marciano Day in honor of his numerous contributions to the Los Angeles Police, Sheriff, and Fire Departments. He has also been recognized for his contribution toward job creation and economic development in the city of Los Angeles. After embarking on two successful careers in California, Georges now wishes to devote his life to promoting the cause of equality, justice and economic prosperity for all Californians. He knows the challenges of pursuing a dream and the struggles for those who want to make a better life for their families. Georges simply wants to create the same opportunities for the citizens of California that he had presented to him thirty years ago.
President Barack Obama said: “We are living the American Dream in reverse.” As Californians, we are confronted each day with news of job loss, government corruption, and a failing infrastructure. That is why Georges Marciano wants to serve as the next Governor for the Great State of California. Because he knows how to create jobs and he understands the needs of workers. He will work hard for greater transparency in government and a return to the economic opportunities that made California and the United States the place where the impossible dreams of a young man could become a reality. “Let’s dream again. Let’s not give up hope. Together we can create jobs for the people of California.” Georges Marciano
